Marathon Runner Completed His 409 Marathon Run
The human spirit has no boundaries, an English runner completed 409 marathons in 25 years! David Phillips has run last week his 409 marathon run! David Phillips is raising funds for different charities such as the Brain and Spine Foundation and others.
By crossing the 400 marathons milestone he has managed to raise £55,000 ($88,500).
Local news paper Coventry Telegraph has covered this story:
“I’ve never missed the Stratford marathon since its very first year. I had to run it because I was going to celebrate my 409th marathon with a party that evening.”
Despite smashing his target, the veteran runner shows no signs of slowing down.
He has now set himself a new target of completing 500 marathons and raising £75,000 for the worthy cause.
The Kenilworth accountant, who lives in Claverdon, became hooked on running marathons almost 25 years ago.
He took part in the Stratford Marathon in 1988 raising £960 for the Midland Sports Centre, in Tile Hill, Coventry.
The following year he ran the same marathon, raising £3,300 for the Telegraph’s Snowball Appeal.
Most of his marathons have been completed in Britain, including Snowdonia, but his pursuit has also taken him to the Swiss Alps, New York, Paris and even Egypt where he once ran the Cairo Marathon. Read more..
The English marathoners would not stop at 409, he has set a new goal to achieve 500 marathons and raising £75,000 ($120,000). The last marathon he run alone! The Stratford Marathon was canceled due to very bad weather, but David Phillips run it anyway, with friends following in a car behind serving drinks instead to the water stations which were canceled.
