Obese Kids Can Walk A Marathon For Free
If there is anything which can help young kids get over their overweight situation is a chance to feel winners and get respect. Obese kids will be able to join the Walk Indiana Marathon and walk with their parents the full 26.2 marathon distance. The Star Press has more on this important topic:
Any child aged 12 and younger can participate in the walk for free as long as they stroll with a registered adult.
“This is awesome!” said Tonya Locke, a member of the Walk Indiana committee. “When I tell this to parents, you should see their faces. They light up and say, ‘I can walk with my kids!’ That’s what we want. It’s important to get our kids healthy along with getting ourselves healthy.”
With childhood obesity rates rising along with general adult numbers, health and wellness advocates encourage efforts to include youngsters in physical activities.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with reports from the National Institutes of Health, continue to promote the need for children to participate in more physical activities to lower these rates.
